Wilcox Medical Center Nuclear Medicine Camera Replacement
Shioi Construction Inc. (SCI) was contracted to renovate the existing Nuclear Medicine camera room, control room, and hot lab processing space at Wilcox Medical Center (WMC).
WMC shared that in today’s modern medical landscape, there are many advanced ways to see inside the human body, including CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, and more. Nuclear medicine imaging is another safe and effective tool used to detect life-threatening diseases and conditions. WMC currently performs approximately 650 nuclear medicine exams each year, and this renovation will allow them to serve even more patients across Kauai.
SCI's scope of work included demolition; construction of a new concrete nuclear medicine camera equipment pad; painting; installation of the ICU glass sliding door, impact resistant acrovyn wall protection, drywall, acoustical ceiling, flooring, cabinets, solid surface tops, plumbing fixtures, and medical gas; electrical work; and replacement of the air conditioning rooftop unit.
During construction, the project team ensured continued operations of the second nuclear camera room, proactively modified the hot lab to accommodate future equipment installation, and carefully minimized air conditioning disruptions to adjacent spaces during equipment replacement.
SCI completed this project in March 2025.
